Bathukamma Festival

On October 1st, 2022, we celebrated Telangana’s favourite Bathukamma festival in Soham premises. As per the old tradition, boys of the groups brought different flowers and girls assembled in the hall for arranging the Bathukamma. Songs which were sung by girls during assembling had elevated the festival vibes. All the leaders were dressed in traditional outfits and were looking very elegant.

The significance of the festival was explained to all the students briefing that women seek the blessings of Gowri Matha for prosperity and happiness for the year ahead. Different local flowers were brought such as Tangedu, Gunugu, Pattu Kuchu etc to prepare the Bathukamma. The native songs sung on Bathukamma explain the indigenous and simple life of people. Each lyric has its own meaning. All the leaders joined the kolatam dance ,irrespective of their age and gender. There was a moment in the dance part where leaders felt like they were attending a Dandiya night and all the Guajarati songs for Dandiya were played. The enthusiasm towards dance captivated each and every audience. At the end of the day, the Visarjan ceremony of Bathukamma was organised and it was immersed in a tub full of water after performing some rituals.

I have especially felt very blessed attending the festival and thoroughly enjoyed the procedures. I also acquired knowledge about the medicinal values of the local plants that were used and got to know about various plants that I had no knowledge of earlier. Thank you Sahadev sir for giving this opportunity to everyone.
