Book Title: Oliver Twist

Author: Charles Dickens

I have successfully completed reading my first book 📗“OLIVER TWIST” written by “CHARLES DICKENS”

Charles Dickens is one of the world’s most famous writers. His novels are still very popular and are read today both in English and in many different translations. Many of his stories have been made into successful television programmes and films.

WHY CHARLES WROTE THIS BOOK?

In earlier days, he had some experiences that haunted him for the rest of his life and provided much inspiration for his writing. He wrote about the poor and lower economic sections of society in a way that was quite new at the time. In his novels, he explores crime, punishment etc. He attacks injustice in institutions such as schools and workhouses where people were often treated very badly.

ABOUT THIS BOOK:

Oliver Twist is one of Charles Dickens’ best loved novels. Raised in a workhouse for poor, homeless children, Oliver runs away to London. He falls in the hands of a criminal gang there, but then, by good fortune, was taken in by a kind and rich gentle man.The story moves between two sides of English life in the 1830s – an underworld of poverty and crime, and the comfortable, secure world of the upper classes. Oliver learns that love and kindness can be found in both worlds.

WHAT I LEARNT FROM THE BOOK:

When Oliver escapes to London, he has several occasions to quit in front of difficulties, but he gets up every single time, falls and doesn’t stop until he reaches his destination. Here, I learnt that

  • When we start a journey, we should never be frightened or quit in fear of failure & not to give up until our efforts are successful.
  • To enjoy the failure in our success.
  • Only a desperate spirit dares to accomplish everything that arrives on the way to destinations.
  • Fight for your own right, sometimes it is costly but we have to buy it anyway.
  • Be positive and honest at our front. Some people cause so much pain in our life but that does not mean we should lose faith in people and humanity. Humanity consists of good hearted people in majority.

The Moral of the book, Oliver Twist is: “TO PERSEVERE IN THE FACE OF ADVERSITY”
